SBA / Small Business Credit Officer

Job Description
Lead underwriters dedicated to U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and small business. Main SBA subject matter expert responsible for program eligibility, underwriting, documentation, servicing and reporting. Execute small business workflow and assures underwriting is in conformity with credit policy and risk rating system. This position is responsible for the evaluation of credit risk and deal structure for small business customers.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Oversee team of small business underwriters with appropriate focus on critical analysis, balancing an independent point of view with the need to build the portfolio and book appropriate business.
  • Ensure timeliness and responsiveness of the credit team and accurately completing appropriate credit analysis
  • Oversee the SBA lending activity of the Bank
  • Responsibilities include program through adherence to the latest SBA SOP and Bank procedures
  • Consult with lending team and borrowers to assure proper loan structure
  • Oversight of documentation components, servicing guidelines as stated in SBA SOP; and monthly reporting via 1502 or other reporting as required
  • Act as the Bank’s primary representative at SBA District Offices and for examinations
  • Responsible for staffing, including hiring, as required
  • Ensure appropriate training (both external and on the job) is available to credit analysts
  • Supervise and coach commercial credit staff and monitors workflow
  • Set individual goals for each analyst and specialist and manages the performance review process to ensure a well-trained, high performing staff
  • Administrator for small business approval platform


  • Maintain an excellent understanding of applicable regulations and laws including but not limited to; Bank Secrecy Act; Privacy; and Fair Lending
  • Maintain an up to date understanding of Bank policies and procedures as they relate to compliance
  • Consistently complete appropriate compliance training


BA Degree in Accounting/Finance, or Economics.
5+ year’s specific SBA commercial lending experience or a combination of Education and work Experience.
